In Christchurch Hospital, rapid prototyping and intra-operative imaging are the standard of care in orbital trauma and has been used since February 2012. Rapid prototyping allows an economical method to fabricate a dimensionally accurate model to visualize complex anatomical structures. This assists in pre-operative titanium plate adaptation for orbital reconstruction. Intra-operative imaging involves a low dose CT scan during a surgical procedure to evaluate surgical components and restored anatomy. It’s main advantage is allowing the clinician to correct any errors that may have occurred during the same procedure. This presentation demonstrates the potential clinical and cost saving benefits when both these technologies are used in orbital reconstructive surgery.
