We are currently in the IASP’s global year of orofacial pain, which aims tohighlight this diverse and multifaceted group of conditions that causemuch suffering and uncertainty for patients. Chronic orofacial pain iscommon and it’s inadequate recognition and management presentproblems for health services. It is not always clear if orofacial pain fallswithin medicine or dentistry, which adds to patients’ anxieties. Correctdiagnosis is the key to managing orofacial pain. This lecture will providean overview of chronic facial pain (pain duration of 3 months or longer)and will address management, which frequently requires a multidisciplinaryapproach.
